Eddie Escort Mk1 Ford Escort 1600GT

Eddie is a 1973 Mk1 Ford Escort 1600GT in olympic blue with a 1.6 crossflow engine.

This car was built in Dagenham, England and has undergone a nut and bolt restoration.  It is like the day it left the factory with slight modifications.

The Mk1 Escorts became successful as a rally car and they eventually went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time.  The Ford Works Team was practically unbeatable in the late 1960’s / early 1970’s, and arguably the Escort’s greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally, driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola and Swedish co-driver Gunnar Palm.  This gave rise to the Escort Mexico 1598cc crossflow engine special edition road versions in honour of the rally car.  Introduced in November 1970, 10352 Mexico Mk1’s were built using body shells using additional strengthening panels in high stress areas, making them more suitable for competition.

A fantastic car to hire for any event, with people having lots of fond memories of the Mk1 Escort.
